BIODUN ODUNUKWE @biodunodunukwe WAS OUR 5th GUEST SPEAKER ON THE JULY EDITION OF #AARTalk. HE SHARED ON "SEX EDUCATION AND YOUR CHILD."

Many thanks to Project KAR for inviting me on this platform. I m humbled
I welcome everyone on board. Thank you all as you join us
When I reflect about the sexual decadence in our society, my heart bleeds for parents.
Where do we start from for crying out loud?
Is it from the sexual immoralities prevalent in many homes? Husband's cheating on wives?
Wives cheating on husbands? Siblings having sex with one another?
Premarital sex happening all over? It is really sickening.
Yet everyone raise up holy hands on Fridays and Sundays in our various religious centers!
So glaring that a lot of us have lost our sexual sanity, yet the same people expects to breed morally upright children.
Until we redefine our sexual lives and put proper checks, we may not be able to teach sex education to our children.
Teaching Sex Education (SE) to your child is one thing, modelling SE is another.
We've got to be strategic about teaching SE to our children in order to improve the sexual sanity in our society
The home is the basic classroom for SE teaching.
The parents are the prime teachers of SE to the children
Acquiring d right knowledge and skills for teaching SE to children is an all important responsibility of the parents.
This must be balanced with age-appropriate techniques as the child grows from stage to stage.
Do you know that children keep sex diaries that parents are not aware of?
I will share some sex related secrets that children hide from their parents which I was able to get from them
In my 'Speak Out' session in some of their schools and religious gatherings.
Please note that these are real life scenarios which were investigated and confirmed to be true!
8 year old girl says 'I have watched my friend have sex with her brother when I went to visit them'.
10 years old girl says ' Our driver used to insert his finger in my private part when I was 7 and I 'm in the car with him
9 year old girl says 'When I go on holiday, a man in grandma's house used to ask me to play with his penis
8 year old boy says 'My Aunty used to ask me to play with her breast and rub her body
12 yr old girl says ' My home lesson teacher usually play with my breast and I cannot tell my mummy
We can't exhaust these scenarios.
The best SE strategy a parent can employ with a child is the EARLY COMMUNICATION strategy.
You don't have to delay the teaching of SE lest you become uncomfortable when the child reaches adolescence.
Misinformation from friends is the usual result if proper SE is not given at the appropriate time
SE offers an avenue for instilling family values into your child
A core SE family value to teach your child is ABSTINENCE from sex before marriage.
Explain to your child why you hold that family value otherwise it becomes a mere rule.
If it is for health reasons or religious reasons, please explain to your child
It is erroneous for parents to think that teaching SE to a child early could lead the child to promiscuity
Nay, it doesn't!
Your child is likely to ask you these questions?
How do women get pregnant? What is sexual intercourse? Where do babies come from? Lol
Why do you and daddy make some sound in the night? Lol
You don't need to fret. Get yourself updated and give your kids the right answers to their questions.
Never leave a question unanswered or else you send your child to terrors who might devour them wt the wrong answers.
SE goes beyond man sleeps with woman.
SE starts with teaching your kids about their body parts.
Teach them the private and public body parts (many books and CDS available on that, just buzz me. Lol
Remember to emphasize the correct names of body parts. Don't teach your child alternative names please!
PENIS is PENIS! VAGINA is VAGINA! BREAST IS BREAST!
Teach the function of each body parts and the need to protect them from sex predators.
Every child must know the GOLDEN RULES OF THE BODY.
Teach your child about puberty BEFORE they attain the age of puberty
Identify the appropriate time to talk wt your child
Teach your child about family relationships and how to avoid sex with them
Teach them age appropriate real life lessons from daily life experiences-marriage, divorce, pregnancy etc
Teach them about healthy and unhealthy relationships.
Children love visuals. Ensure the use of photographs, pictures, drawings etc in discussing with your children .
Acknowledge your child's feelings and provide guidance on how to control it.
If he/she tells you, 'I have a crush on my classmate doesn't deserve to be beaten or scolded.
Don't loose your patience if you have to repeat lessons taught to your children cos they may remember everything you taught.
Be careful about the movie you watch on TV in the presence of your child
Don't engage in activities which undermine their views on sexuality .
SE must be taught comprehensively in all schools .
We would be rounding up with some food for thought for parents.
How do you feel knowing that your child stumbled on a love message you sent to a lover?
What confidence would a promiscuous fellow have to teach SE to a child in his/ her custody?
There is no safer place than home. Give it all it takes to build a sexually sane home.
The future of our children and our society depends on it
On this note, I call it a day n big thanks to everyone who has created time to be a part of this
Keep up the good work@KICKagainstRAPE . Accept my Redefined Love.
