Lastly, I appreciate Bunmi_Sobowale #Victorious lady who stood up to assist people. Sex center @csefl is contributing greatly
The topic I am addressing today is a topic that pierces my heart during therapy sessions.
I am yet to see a rape victim who wishes her enemies rape crisis.
I am yet to fine a rape victim who sings the song of joy for the rape.
I am yet to find a rapist who publicly announces his act as the right way to treat women.
I am yet to meet a rape victim whose vision becomes clear through rape ecstasy.
I am yet to find a rapist who becomes a better person for the act infuse power on him/her.
Rape is beyond an accident, Rape is an act of violence on human order of living.
Rape is beyond an accident, Rape is an act of violence on human order of living.
Rape is damaging a thing beyond its original form, Rape is taking a heart away and replacing with a stone.
Rape is undressing a beautiful woman publicly without her permission
Rape goes beyond damaging: it destroys and kills the internal man called YOU.
I have seen rape victims say “I wish I was never born” I have seen rape victims say “I wish I can kill him”
After several therapy sessions with rape victims, I have concluded that rape is a killer.
I have seen rape victims say “I wish he/she dies in jail and never returns”
I have seen rape victims curse the offender despite the rape incident happened more than one or two decade ago.
I have few statistics and survey gathered that can explain the crisis of rape nationally and globally.
In Nigeria 7 in 10 adult, which is 67 per cent, think there is a high prevalence of child rape in the country.
3 in 10, 31per cent, personally know of a victim of child rape in their local communities.
The Lagos State Police Command said it recorded 678 cases between March 2012 and March 2013.
4 in 10, 36% adult in Nigerians, claim the offenders involved in the incident of child rape are close family relatives & neighbors.
In South Africa according to police statistics, some 36,000 women were raped in 2007 — nearly 100 per day.
SA rapist even practice “Correct rape”: Correct rape is criminal in South Africa, when men rape a lesbian woman.
In the United States, about 80,000 cases of rape were reported to the police from 2004 to 2010.
Acquaintance rape/date rape: When the victim & the rapist know each other e.g. - rapes of co-workers, schoolmates, friend
Gang rape: When a group of people participate in the rape of a single victim.
Spousal/marital/wife/husband rape: Rape between a married couple or partner (who are behaving like a couple but not married).
Minor rape: When a child is raped by an adult e.g. parent or close relatives, school teachers, religious authorities, or therapists.
Statutory rape: Adults engaging in consensual sexual relations with sexually mature minors under age of consent.
College campus rape: When rape is done inside college premises by college aged men and women.
War rape: During war, rape is often used as means of psychology.
As a practicing psychotherapist in the field of helping victims’ l have discovered that victims are more than professionals.
So I recommend rape self-therapy guide: 1. Acknowledge that you’re a victim that will stand again.
2. Face the reality that rape is a sickness that can be treated and you will be treated.
Prison rape: Rapes which happen in prison, like homosexual etc.
3. Acknowledge you have no power over the rapist but you have power over yourself..
4. If you know the rapist facially or otherwise get a simple picture and print it out..
5. Address the picture and do to it what you want done to the rapist..
6. Write about your story; you don’t have to put your name..
7. Chat and attending meetings periodically with group or individual who are addressing the topic - rape..
8. Create an awareness forum to help others if you can..
Lastly I will share with you some inspirational quotes from Rape survivors..
"It's about realizing, painfully, you've kept that voice inside yourself, locked away from even yourself..
And you step back and see that your jailer has changed faces. You realize you've become your own jailer.".
"The idea is to rescue myself from the role of a victim. That I have a choice left..
Though I can't change what has happened, I can choose how to react..
And I don't want to spend the rest of my life being bitter and locked up.".
"You have to crawl into the wounds to discover what your fears are. Once the bleeding starts, the cleansing can begin..
I love both the victim and the rapist. Bye for now and nourish your soul to enrich the world.
I will like to end today's broadcast by saying You are not the last that will be raped. Save someone else by addressing RAPE.
