She talked about the alarming rates of sexual harassment and how it can be curbed, It was a very educative session.

and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature 2/2 #AARTalk

Permit me to use SH in the course of these tweets to signify Sexual Harassment
Acceptance/Refusal is used as basis in decisions affecting an individual's employment, education, environment etc .
Sexual Harassment can be physical, verbal or non-verbal.
Both Men and Women at different levels..
Types of SH are 1. Unwanted Sexual statements 2. Unwanted personal attention 3. Unwanted physical/Sexual advances .
Some types of SH are subtle often making it difficult to quickly decode intentions while others are severe .
Which of the types of SH are you guilty of? As a boss to an employee? A friend to another? Lecturer to student? .
Unwelcome Behavior is the critical word.Unwelcome does not mean "involuntary." A victim may agree to actively 1/2.
Participate because at that moment they feel they don't have a choice. 2/2 .
SEXISM is an attitude. It is an attitude of a person of one sex that he/she is superior to a person of other sex. .
SEXISM is often employed in SH with males feeling they are superior & females feeling they too can play the game.
Another form of SH is touch or gestures. Unwelcome touches, winks, smacks, kissing sounds etc .
No gender is left one when it comes to SH though it is often seen as mostly a male thing. .
SEXUAL HARASSMENT is a behavior. It is defined as unwelcome behavior of a sexual nature.
In fact some acts of Rape starts from Sexual Harassment.
No is No. It doesn't matter your social strata, when he or she says No, please respect that no.
What makes Sexual Harassment Unwelcome? The moment the receiver frowns at the advances or is compelled to succumb
Until very recently( 10 yrs), Nigeria had no legislation in place for dealing with the issue of sexual harassment
However,to some extent,the lack was filled in Lagos State by the promulgation of Lagos State Criminal Law of 2011
, confidence, morale and performance of those affected by it
SHE has more negative effects on the women, It is also more reported by women.
Enough of the big grammar, let's come home.
Many of us are guilty of one form or another of SH. Sometimes this can be unintentional.
With the advent of social media, some subtle forms of sexual harassment can be masked under P-setting etc.

I read a definition of SH a while back that said unwelcome advances towards a married person. I disagree
Does this then imply that we can harass singles with unwelcome acts? No. No human should he harassed sexually

Sometimes if not most times, succumbing to SH leaves a sour taste than politely & firmly standing your ground.
When you want to get out, you'd find out you are entangled in a Web you never knew existed at first .
All of you hiding in DMs, Facebook messages to constantly profess love that is being turned out, it's SH
One definition says the use of endearment that is unwelcome is SH so b4 you call another baby/sweets,think again
How do you get out of sexual harassment?
1. Politely & Firmly stand your ground
2. Don't be around at odd times
3. Don't get hints or signs of indecision
4. No matter how difficult, sometimes leaving might be the best option
